World Youth Championship Kicks Off in Italy
Almost all Russians won in the first round.
The World Youth Chess Championship among boys and girls under 14, 16, and 18 years old began in Montesilvano (Italy). Most of the Russian chess players won in Round 1.
In the U14 open competition, Savva Vetokhin, Artem Uskov, David Akhmedov, Nikolay Tregubenko, and Aleksey Prokhorov outperformed their opponents, while Nikolay Averin lost his game. Anna Shukhman, Iren Lyutsinger, and Oksana Goriachkina won their games in the U14 girls' tournament.
Tamerlan Chyndygyr celebrated victory in the U16 open event, while Alexandra Shvedova and Olesia Vlasova scored their first tournament points in the girls' competition.
Volodar Murzin, Aleksey Grebnev, and Konstantin Popov started the U18 open tournament with wins. In the U18 girls's group, Anna Zhurova defeated the Portuguese chess player Sara Joana Soares.
