Yenisey Team Wins Russian Blitz Championship
Southern Ural excelled in the women's event.
The Russian Blitz Team Championships were held in the Zhemchuzhina Grand Hotel in Sochi on 17 October. There were four main players and one reserve in each team. Both events were the Swiss tournaments with 36 teams in the open section (13 rounds) and 17 in the women's (11 rounds).
The Yenisey team (Krasnoyarsk Krai) celebrated victory in the open event, having scored 21 match points (33.5 board points) out of 26. The team was represented by GMs Maksim Chigaev, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Andrey Drygalov, Sergei Zablotsky, and Dmitriy Khegay. Team Vityaz from Vologda Oblast is in second place with 19 points (35), while the Novosibirsk Oblast team is third with 19 (33.5) points. ShSM (Moscow) and Ladya (Tatarstan) also got 19 (33) points each.
The women's competition was won by the Southern Ural-1 (Chelyabinsk Oblast) featuring IM Polina Shuvalova, GM Valentina Gunina, IM Olga Badelka, IM Daria Charochkina, and WGM Elizaveta Solozhenkina. The champions scored 20 match points out of 22 (34.5 board points). Yugra won silver with 20 (30.5) points, and ShSM (Moscow) is in third place with 16 (27) points).
The Russian Team Rapid Championships will start in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina on 18 October. They will bring together 37 teams in the open section and 17 in the women's. The rounds will start at 2 PM Moscow time.
