Art Russe Acquires Iconic Paintings

Russian Chess Federation partner reports on its most recent success.

Art Russe, partner of the Russian Chess Federation, is pleased to announce that it expanded its collection through the acquisition of 7 paintings by some of the most iconic Russian artists. The paintings previously belonged to a European noble family.

Among the acquired canvases are important works by some of the most famous Russian artists.  Art Russe’s collection now includes versions of Victor Vasnetsov’s Alionushka (1881), The Legendary Heroes (1881-98), and The Flying Carpet (1880), Mikhail Vrubel’s The Swan Princess (1900), and Ilya Repin’s Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom (1876). The acquired works also include Valentin Serov’s watercolour study The Rape of Europa (1910), and Zinaida Serebriakova’s Ballet Dressing-room Snowakes (1923).

Andrey Filatov, Founder of Art Russe, said: “The agreement to acquire these works became a seminal event for our collection. Many of these canvases are not just brilliant examples of fine art, but form a crucial part of the Russian culture and are instantly recognized by almost every Russian. I am confident that these masterpieces will further strengthen the exposition at Beaulieu and will undoubtedly attract significant interest among the visitors of the Russian art gallery.”

The new works will become an important part of Art Russe’s collection alongside eleven paintings acquired last year from a European Royal family. As was announced earlier, in December 2015 Art Russe has signed the agreement to acquire masterpieces representing several influential movements in Russian art. These works include The Religious Procession in Kursk Province (1883), Village Dance (1891), and Demonstration 17th October 1905 (1906) by Ilya Repin, The Portrait of Cousin Alexandra (1889) by Valentin Serov, The Mother of God (1912) and Youth (1913) by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, as well as And We Continue Fishing (1922), And We Are Trying (1922), And We See (1922), and Sancta Sophia by Nikolai Roerich, and Whirlwind (1906) by Filipp Malyavin.
